Cameras for a home care service, with a mask over every workstation.

The home care service CuraSanat moved and wanted to secure its new location. We set up three cameras and routed their video through an encrypted tunnel to the care service’s NAS.

Graphic: a schematic floor plan, not a real one. A hallway runs across the building to the entrance door, with two closed, dark rooms with a desk above it and two below. One camera hangs in the corner at the end of the hallway and looks along it to the door, a second hangs outside next to the door and watches the area in front of it, a third sits on the corner of the building and looks across the yard. No field of view reaches into a room. A line runs from the building to a small box and on to a phone.

Starting point

A home care service has offices, files and staff who work there all day. A camera pointed at a desk also films the person sitting at it.

With the move came the wish for cameras. A camera pointed outside quickly sees more of the street than of the property itself.

What we built

  1. Cameras and storage.

The cameras are from Reolink, and the recordings are stored on the client’s NAS. We mounted them together with the client’s electrician and did the setup and configuration ourselves.

  2. Workstations and street masked out.

Each camera has masks for the areas it shouldn’t record. The workstations are covered, and so is the view of the street. Only what belongs to the location gets recorded.

  3. No video exposed online.

Many cameras are set up so their picture can be reached over the internet. Here the path to the NAS runs through an encrypted tunnel, a site-to-site VPN. On the go, the care service can see its cameras only through the manufacturer’s official app or directly through the NAS. There is no other way in.

The path of the video: from the camera through the VPN tunnel to the care service’s NAS.

Result

The cameras record around the clock, and the recordings stay on the care service’s NAS for more than 30 days.

If there’s an incident, it can still be reviewed weeks later.

“At the new location we wanted security, but no camera looking over our staff’s shoulders. That’s exactly how it’s set up now.”
